From Humble Beginnings to Global Expansion:

In the year 2000, Sumo Sushi & Bento made its debut as the UAE’s first Japanese casual dining restaurant. This remarkable venture was brought to life by a group of visionary entrepreneurs based in Dubai. Fast forward to today, and these same entrepreneurs are taking the Sumo Sushi & Bento experience to neighboring GCC countries, South Asia, and beyond.

A Remarkable Evolution:

The journey began with the opening of the inaugural Sumo Sushi & Bento restaurant in 2000, located on Dubai’s iconic Sheikh Zayed Road. Four years later, our second restaurant emerged in Dubai Internet City, followed by a third at Town Centre in Jumeirah in 2006. The turning point arrived in 2007 when Sumo Sushi & Bento evolved into a franchise, leading to the rapid launch of four new restaurants in Sharjah, Bahrain, and two more in Dubai (Garhoud and Dubai Health Care City) within just 12 months.

The expansion continued, with Sumo Sushi & Bento setting its footprint in Abu Dhabi (Masdar) in 2011. In 2014, the brand introduced its innovative ‘Sumo Express’ concept in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Most recently, Sumo Sushi & Bento has expanded to Murooj in Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Motor City, and is gearing up to welcome customers in three more locations in Oman this year. Today, we offer a diverse range of dining experiences, including restaurant dining, home delivery, event catering, and the Sumo Express deli concept.

Meet Kenji:

Our beloved mascot, Kenji, a friendly Japanese sumo wrestler, has been a symbol of hearty hospitality since he first adorned the walls of our flagship Sheikh Zayed Road branch. Kenji continues to bring smiles to loyal customers throughout the region. In 2010, he was joined by the Kenji Kids, the hosts of Sumo Sushi & Bento’s Miso Cute Kids Club. Today, Kenji and the Kenji Kids engage with our fans worldwide through social media.
