A: Geláre Ice Cream is air-free. While other ice creams may contain up to 50% air, Geláre is crafted without any air. In the early days of commercial ice cream production, manufacturers discovered that fluffing the product with air could double their yield. To the unsuspecting customer, the ice cream may have looked the same, but in reality, it could contain as much air as actual ice cream.
What Is the Significance of the Name Geláre, and How Does It Differ from Gelato?
A: Geláre is an Italian word that translates to ‘freeze’ or ‘congeal,’ representing the final step in the ice cream-making process. ‘Gelati’ or ‘gelato’ are generic Italian terms for ‘ice cream,’ which, in reality, refer to ice milk products with a lower cream content. While many companies may sell their version of ‘gelato’ or incorporate the word into their name, there is only one GELARE—a federally trademarked name reserved exclusively for our products.
