About Us: Nurturing Minds and Shaping Futures at City of Oxford College
Unveiling a Legacy of Excellence in Education
Our Identity: City of Oxford College stands as a beacon of educational excellence in Oxford, England. Nestled within this historic city are our two vibrant campuses – one nestled in the heart of the city center and the other gracing the southeast region in Blackbird Leys. Formerly known as Oxford & Cherwell Valley College (OCVC), our transformation journey began in 2013 when the Oxford & Cherwell Valley College Group metamorphosed into the Activate Learning group.
Empowering Futures: City of Oxford College is dedicated to providing a wide array of vocational training programs, primarily tailored for the post-16 sector. Our comprehensive offerings encompass a diverse spectrum, including vocational training for school leavers and professionals, A-levels, apprenticeships, higher education, international study programs, enriching courses for lifelong learners, and specialized programs aimed at facilitating the reintegration of the unemployed into the workforce.
A Rich Heritage: Established in the year 1960, our roots extend to the present-day Blackbird Leys and Oxford city center campuses. The Oxford College of Further Education, as it was formerly known, welcomed students of all backgrounds and aspirations, fostering growth at all levels of education. As we crossed into the new millennium, our student community thrived with 1,872 full-time and 7,533 part-time learners. Our college was structured into three faculties, specializing in arts, engineering services, and business and technology.
A Fusion of Excellence: On a significant date, July 31, 2003, the Oxford College of Further Education joined forces with North Oxfordshire College in Banbury, uniting under the banner of Oxford and Cherwell College. This historic merger also marked the relocation of the Rycotewood Furniture Centre from Thame, enriching our Oxford city-center campus.
Expanding Horizons: In 2005, we ventured into new territory with the inauguration of a campus in Bicester, further solidifying our standing as Oxford & Cherwell Valley College (OCVC). This marked the onset of a transformative period, as in 2010, OCVC took on the responsibility of operating Reading College in collaboration with the Learning Skills Network (LSN). OCVC then evolved into the Oxford & Cherwell Valley College Group.
A New Dawn: In 2013, a strategic realignment reshaped the landscape of education. The OCVC Group gracefully transitioned into Activate Learning, signifying a new era in education. Our two OCVC colleges, Oxford and Banbury, underwent a name change, with OCVC (Oxford) proudly assuming the mantle of City of Oxford College.
At City of Oxford College, we are committed to nurturing the brightest minds and shaping futures that illuminate the path to success.
