Embark on a Culinary Journey with India’s Culinary Legend – Moti Mahal Tandoori Trail

Moti Mahal, synonymous with India’s culinary heritage and the pioneer of Tandoori cuisine, holds a special place in the hearts of food connoisseurs. It was the very first Indian restaurant to introduce the world to the rich flavors of Tandoori cuisine. The story of Moti Mahal dates back to 1920 when it was first established in Peshawar, and in 1947, it made its way to Delhi following the partition. Today, ‘Moti Mahal Tandoori Trail,’ with its modern and contemporary ambiance, pays homage to this glorious culinary legacy that traces its roots from Peshawar to Delhi.

The credit for revolutionizing Indian cuisine and putting it on the global culinary map goes to the visionary, Shri Kundan Lal Gujral, the founder of Moti Mahal. He is the culinary genius behind iconic dishes like Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken, and the legendary Dal Makhani.

Tandoori Trail stands as a heartfelt tribute to the founder of the Moti Mahal chain, a legacy that lives on through the diligent efforts of Sh. Kundan Lal’s grandson, Monish Gujral. Monish Gujral, an alumnus of Modern School Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, armed with a degree in Hotel Management from Pusa Institute, and having served as a consultant professor at Pusa, has played a pivotal role in training master chefs for various culinary competitions.

Monish Gujral is also a prominent columnist, contributing his culinary expertise to leading newspapers like The Hindustan Times and The Hindu. In April 2004, he authored the book ‘Motimahal Tandoori Trail,’ which was published by Roli Books and graced with a grand release by Sh. Arun Jaitley, the then Minister for Law and Justice and Commerce and Industry. The book’s acclaim extended internationally when it was launched at the Nehru Centre in London by the Ministry of External Affairs in June 2005.

Responding to popular demand, Monish Gujral co-produced and directed a series of Qawalli CDs and cassettes in collaboration with T-series, a renowned Indian music company. These Qawalli compositions became immensely popular and were officially released by Tourism Minister Smt. Renuka Choudhary in August 2005.

Moti Mahal’s Tandoori Trail, which journeys from Peshawar to Delhi, is a testament to the enduring legacy of culinary excellence. With a rich history and unwavering commitment to serving exceptional food, Moti Mahal is all set to create new milestones in India and across the globe.
